but this album was just crazy influential so that adds to it. you have to put some music into context when you listen to it. i mean if the beatles came out today (and there are many bands who sound like them coming out even now) theyd prob be a decently popular band but nowhere near the impact they would have had in the 60s. its the same with nevermind. they were just the band to break alternative worldwide, even though it should have been the pixies/sonic youth.

lyrics are good, it's catchy (that can be good), it's fun (that can also be good)
the two latter aspects most likely caused the majority of it's commercial success and drove the fact that Kurt hated what fame came from this album
