opinion: the whole album is fun though. it's like a ride on the dont give a fuck rollercoaster; the epitome of modern free jazz.

agreed. and that idgaf attitude came out when they played these songs live. i saw them on this tour and was blown away with all the improvisation. i think i'll miss pridgen on Noc though...

@uranium i listen to a lot of free jazz and avant garde jazz, and I usually can dig a prog bands idgaf attitude about composition. unfortunately after frances pretension got the best of them and its like they didn't even care about songcraft any more and just did whatever, and I applaud them for being genuine and doing whatever they feel is good, I just feel that Amp and Bedlam are both really weak albums that need a leash.

yea, songs like day of the baphomets and goliath show no intent to craft a song, there just mish-moshed pieces o wait, yes they do, both show a strict compositional identity, following logical progressions and movements...stop talkin out your ass because the band you like didn't just keep releasing the same album over and over...there's a lot of shitty bands that are tmv with a leash, so id rather they go shitcrazy than be like them...

lol you named the best songs on each record. Im a huge Volta fan, im lovin the new one and Frances and De-Loused are among my favorites of all time. This album is a bit of an overdone mess, I don't enjoy most of the songs, and I know it's volta but there's just too much going on for them to get something going I can hang on too. The new record has too much shit stuffed in as well but the highlights on it are the best work theyve done since 2005. Amputechture is also too much, it was incredibly proficient but most of it didn't grab me at all and didn't give me a reason to go back. it was cool, but way too much shit stuffed in for me to grab.

im not talking out of my ass, im analyzing the fact that on bedlam and amp they tried too hard too stuff ideas in and ended making up two records that flew by by the most part annoying me rather than allowing me to grasp any type of good ideas. Amp and Bedlam don't offer much to go back too, for me.
