Calling this a deathcore classic lowers the bar considerably and does a disservice to actually good core tbqh

Come on, Mars. When this came out there wasn't much like it. It still gets more hate than it deserves. Sure there are more breakdowns than are necessary, but that's just how deathcore started. There are some awesome songs on here even by today's standards, imo.

Also, Dave McKean did the cover which is kind of a wild combo.

Yeah, it was something a bit different, but I wouldn't call it a 'classic' in my book.

It's cool you got this 5'd, I respect that
But this is just kinda heaviness and not much else for me
At the very least better than the 'beatdown' scene which is hopefully fading away soon

Unanswered, The Price of Beauty, The Fallen, No Pity For A Coward, Bludgeoned to Death, Girl of Glass and Green Monster are all awesome. I love how gritty it sounds compared to some of the later dxc stuff that got so polished.

I always love the argued dichotomy of heightened production quality and metal music, it's very interesting.
Conventional logic would make one believe that "better" production would ultimately yield better results and would be the optimal move to push musical boundaries further
Yet when it comes to metal (and by extension other genres like shoegaze) there's a division, because old, less-polished production is more characteristic of the genre's roots and can highlight its trademark, unchained brutality and raw emotion.
Sometimes better production does work out, in my opinion. Just interesting to see both sides of the fence.

The thing we run into is that on albums like this, the production is actually good- it sounds great, but is intentionally raw. They didn't really gloss anything over at all, but made sure it was mixed so as to not drown anything out other than maybe the bass, but the bass is so distorted that it's pretty must indistinguishable from the guitar.
It's an interesting dynamic for sure, especially in metal.

I won't argue that this isn't heavy, but it lacks good direction in general. Feels to me like it banks in on the heaviness all the way and that alone can alone do so much.
Agree to disagree, we're all repping the dxc by the end of the day anyways so w/e, m/

I'll agree that this does rely a bit on just being heavy and has some shock-value in a few songs.

How do you feel about the new single?

I have no interest in hearing it, tbh. I only really liked the EP, this and most of No Time To Bleed. Not a fan of the direction they took at all.
