I'm just starting listening to this album... the instrumentation is really impressive, but the vocals are just irritating to me. Maybe I just need to listen to it more. I listen to a lot of music with screaming in it, but his voice really grates on my nerves.
You're not alone, the vocals are about 75% atrocious.

I finally decided to bump this up to a 5 it took me a while,it very slowly grew on me.It took many play throughs, but finally careful listening of the last 3 tracks finally made see that this is indeed a classic.Theres just nothing else really like it out there...
So yeah Non-Objective Portrait Of Karma,Kill The Switch, and A Crater To Cough In pretty much rule my life right now. This Message Edited On 12.01.08

the spoken stuff bothers me...not when im alone but when i try to play kill the switch for a friend to get said friend into a "screamo" (gasp) band and he sounds like the guy from The Ultimate Showdown (this is the ultimate showdown, ultimate destiny, good guys bad guys and explosions, as far as the eye could see, but only one will survive i wonder who it will be, this is the ultimate showdown, ultimate destiny)This Message Edited On 12.15.08

This is one album i think every scene kid should be given for Christmas.
It's a really haunting album, but is also beautiful at the same time. Then you read the lyrics along with the song, and it's even more haunting.

You really want to hear 'Kill The Switch' and 'Same Shade as Concrete'.

It's an album rating not a song rating.

His voice is so incredibly annoying, wow. How the hell is this even remotely close to a 5?

The clean vocals aren't as prominent as the instrumental work and the screaming on this album, you should be able to get past that.

The instrumentation is great at times, I agree, but the vocals, ugh. I have the exact same problem with Converge as well.

This can be categorized as a 'grower', it took me repeated listens to realize its greatness (not saying you absolutely will as well). But give it a couple chances, there is some deep stuff here.
