🔥 to be honest some of those bad ones are almost on point but I’ll refrain from outright labelling the majority that
Starman & Let’s Dance tho, yes
Heroes not the right choice for top tier, basic bitch take

yeah i like heroes but it's pretty far from top tier bowie for me
|
| |
on balance I guess he's the most overrated musician ever to me

yall didnt even comment on "under pressure" hehe

Teenage Wildlife >>> Heroes
Golden Years is groovy as all hell, and has a fantastic chorus hook and a Strong Whimsical Vibe To Which One Can Dance don't think it's surprising that it ended up the most successful track from this

what don't you like about bowie sona?
|
| |
if the chorus hook is "goooolden years goooolden years wat wat wat" then no thanks. let me collect my thoughts on that Pangea, but I dont like his singing or songwriting at all, I think his songs are hookless/tuneless/aimless/just boring even though I know they're only really the fourth of those

referring to bowie as an overrated (or underrated or in any way specifically tbqh) musician feels off to me. feels like referring to bob dylan as a singer or aphex twin as a songwriter - off the mark for where the real goods are at.

David bowie wants ideas
"bob dylan as a singer"
He is, and one of the greats

"referring to bowie as an overrated (or underrated or in any way specifically tbqh) musician feels off to me. feels like referring to bob dylan as a singer or aphex twin as a songwriter - off the mark for where the real goods are at."
I have a feeling you'll renege on this
|
| |
I just mean distance b/w how much I like and how much acclaim he gets generally speaking. that distance is the largest for bowie than for anyone else I can think of.

‘yall didnt even comment on "under pressure" hehe’
why would we when it was in the correct place?
I have to agree with you on Golden Years, the hook completely doesn’t land for me either and there’s nothing particularly interesting about the song otherwise.
|
| |
Yeah one of the most overrated musicians of all time agreed. He normalised heterosexual men feeling ok about having man crushes though so that's cool.

"Yeah one of the most overrated musicians of all time agreed."
can we move this to the led zeppelin/black sabbath/doors/iron maiden threads

"I have a feeling you'll renege on this"
not at all? performer/songwriter/artist/singer/entertainer are all far more cogent terms; i feel that you have to bypass the bulk of their magic to narrow the field to the (in this case) comparatively drab 'musician' and maybe this is indicative of something maybe it ain't hm
|
| |
musician covers those Im not sure I see your point. the most relevant term to the overall product I don't like--and it's very much the overall product I don't like--is musician...or artist but that's not a distinction worth getting hung up on. I don't at all enjoy his songwriting or singing but those are component parts and I think the most important thing is that I don't like his music
|
| |
Yes! overrated performer/ entertainer. KAIRAI-BUNCH better

"nothing wrong with it its just kinda a downer/misplaced in the tracklist/not my favorite bowie performance"
this take from ryus is like the sput equivalent of the warriors falling just short of the nba win streak record

i think the Point, if there is a singular point which maybe actually there is, with bowie is his charisma and narratorial style (these count as one Point), which all the Other Ones (songwriting, stylisation and tbh music wholesale, hence my gripe) have the sense of emanating from rather than supporting
which is why it kinda loses me to see discussion of his work reduced to this or that aspect of whichsoever hook or vocal delivery, valid as those critiques may individually be. engage with all that without a firm grip on the Source Vibe and 's all a little flim innit
