Gave this another chance and it's decidedly better than I remember. Although I still cannot shake the "who can it be now" from Dust and Nations

Can't help but feeling empty after listening to this album. It has some fantastic moments but nothing really earth shattering (arguably Image and For Miles I guess). I could do without some of the shoe-horned "loud" segments though, teeters on the edge of grating rather than impactful. Maybe I'm missing something? Because I actually find myself returning to their later albums (and earlier ones) over this. It just doesn't do a fat lot for me.

You're definitely missing something if Image is earth shattering to you.

I dunno man, when it drops into that chorus it's pretty wonderful. I dig when these guys can pull off a great hook, and nail the emotional side of it too. A lot of this doesn't really hit for me, and I can't explain why. I genuinely prefer what they did with Beggars and Major/Minor in that regard.

imagine calling something on this album earth shattering and not referring to the earth will shake
