I have heard some Opeth and none of it was metal.

once you get over the lack of metal on this it's rather spellbinding

Eehhhh I don't like those synths and pseudo orchestral crap they have been putting in their music since PC

Okay what is the heaviest Opeth album? I want to listen to that one first.
*edit shit sorry for double post
|

Art, what is up with Mike and his ridiculous oversinging on later albums.
|
| |
Wutang, deliverence is their heaviest.
|
| |
If you haven't listened to their metal stuff, why not just listen to their metal stuff? It's by far the stuff with the highest Sputnik avg. as well. Blackwater Park, Still Life etc.

I just listened to more than half of this and "spellbinding" isn't the word I would choose. I would define this in one word as something like longwinded, or trivial or blandboringboomerrock. To each their own though.
|
| |
I mean, it is boomer rock so you aren't wrong there

I am listening to a heavier album by this band right now and its not that special. My Arms Your Hearse. It sounds like they recorded this in a basement with low quality equipment.

About every album up until Blackwater Park has rather low production values. BP definitely spoiled the earlier albums of the band for me. Except maybe Orchid and Morningrise, which definitely stand up from their earlier albums, they're less defined but more unique to me.
I feel My Arms Your Hearse and Still Life were more an early dip into the heavy metal with softer rock passages they'd exhibe in the 2000s.
Maybe try out Orchid or Blackwater Park to see if Opeth is a band you'd want anything to do with.

I think I'll stop now with this band, not my thing. I'm into hip hop and blues and the like.

I mean this would be a good album to listen to if I was 30 something but, not my thang.
