Yeah but to actively go about refining what you do to appease a target audience is the stuff of nightmares dude.

Band is the product of a record labels symposium

I always took the Nagasaki line as sarcasm, like we're children "playing with fire" unaware that we're about to get burned by our own carelessness

Not a literal game or way to play nagasaki lol
|

^yes this. it is a very tongue-in-cheek line. just like "let's go outside and we'll play William Tell." William Tell is a person, not a game.

Yes I did pick up on that they don't mean literally play a game called Nagasaki. What I mean is that it's a really clunky metaphor because whether it's we (as in two people) or we as in society, "playing Nagasaki" is completely meaningless. Like let's "play" nuked? Getting nuked is a passive action so it doesn't make sense. Playing William Tell is a good metaphor because the whole point is that he's saying one person will take a risky shot at the other.
More than any of that though I just think it goes for being dark and eerie and just sounds lame and weird instead.

"More than any of that though I just think it goes for being dark and eerie and just sounds lame and weird instead."
that i can absolutely agree with, although that's often the case with brand new lyrics. they're not "cringey" enough for me to actually care though, i've grown quite indifferent with them

You're missing the Point (pun intended) ;-)
You're taking it way too literally in saying 'play nuked', he uses the word 'playing' to convey the carelessness with which various nations boast nuclear warfare ("fire and fury", for example), which could lead to anyone being a victim of total devastation, or becoming their own Nagasaki.

Zilla you’re in the band pal well show ‘em how it’s.....4.5’d American Football!!!!!
OUT!!!!
LMAOOO
Yeah, American indie gets pretty dumb, agreed. In fact, most of the music I find annoying seems to come from the US, which is just bloody odd.

But... but Nagasaki didn't play fire and fury with nukes.
This is a completely pointless hairsplitting, we should be focusing on important things like how Logan to Government Center is secretly the 3rd best song on YFW behind Shower Scene and Seatbelt.

You're one of those guys when someone says "can I go to the bathroom?" you answer "I don't know, CAN you?" aren't you? ;-)
I mean you're not wrong about it not making 100% literal sense, but the point easily gets across IMO. Logan is my least favorite BN song haha oops.

But you're right, we're splitting hairs all over and I just appreciate how much you appreciate Brand New. :-)

137 is amazing cuz it sounds like kids playing with nuclear weapons, giving it an incredibly eerie foreboding vibe. Also the audio snippets are so well placed “If there wasn’t a war going on this place would look pretty nice...”
there’s really not that much better indie out there... at least not as creative as this alb.

Check out some of the pre 2005 indie. The standards were a lot higher back in the day.

yeah indie has been hipsterified in modern years so I get where ur coming from. What artists specifically from 2005 era? You should give this album more of a chance though, it really is excellent in a slow burning way.
