idk if it's my favorite (though it's more on the edge than ever) but that tune will always mean the world to me

I was the opposite, kind of underwhelmed at first but it grew on me afterwards. I think a part of it is that a lot of songs on here have a cringy (IMO) or off-putting lyric that throws me off.
"When I grow up, I wanna be a heretic"
"Every night you were trippin' oooout"
"The whale is well-rehearsed"
"At the bottom of the ocean fish won't judge ya by your thoughts"
"Let's all go play Nagasaki" (my least favourite Brand New lyric ever)
"All praise player one"

“I think hearing Lit Me Up for the first time ever the moment after logging onto sput for the night and realizing this had dropped was one of the single most joyous experiences I've ever had listening to music”
That is truly depressing.

Agree with you about that Nagasaki lyric Point, song's chorus is one of their worst

i wouldn't say it's cringey per se, just very very blunt. jesse has never been the most cryptic lyricist anyway

The lyrics of Out of Mana bother me the most
Referring to God as “Player One” is pretty badass, though

@Artuma it's not the bluntness that puts me off, it's just the goofiness of "let's all go play Nagasaki."
Like in "You Won't Know" the line "let's go outside and we'll play William Tell" makes sense because you theoretically could. But you can't "play" Nagasaki, and also getting nuked isn't an active decision, and also the line sounds really weird...
There are so many levels that that lyric really sucks to me which is too bad because otherwise I like the song.

I thought I’d give this another go but it’s a struggle.
Disingenuous, vapid flannel with absolutely nothing to say to anybody and conveyed with absolutely no subtlety whatsoever. Can’t Get It Out is fucking lol.
Even 12 year olds would struggle to find anything here behind the see-through hackneyed nonsense.
This band is playing what it thinks you want to hear and that is the biggest joke of all.

So wait do you like this album or do you really like this album

Clearly you're not part of their target audience, zak.

I do kind of get what he's saying in that I feel like this album is very much for people who already really like Brand New in a way that their others aren't? Like I know that's not literally the case but I can't imagine being just a random music listener and checking this out and loving it.

If you think a band should specify a ‘target audience’ then my point is confirmed.

If you think a band should specify a ‘target audience’ then my point is confirmed.
It's the dumbed-down, insipid kind of indie rock. There's a shit ton of better indie out there.

"But you can't "play" Nagasaki, and also getting nuked isn't an active decision, and also the line sounds really weird..."
it does sound weird and sorta awkward but the way i see it the point is not that we as individuals go and "play nagasaki" but more from a societal pov. still a bit awkward but i don't necessarily see the problem with the metaphor itself
