also did people always hate Kunta or is that a new hate-train people are hopping on?

I remember it getting a fair bit of disdain before the album came out, causing people to be sceptical of TPaB itself.

XXX has a great beat too
why are his lyrics so DAMN. simple on this album though?
|
| |
lyrical prowess seems pretty on par with tpab, its just not dressed up in so much production value like it is on here. Probably why I'm liking it more, its a lot more grounded for what he's saying.

I never found Kendrick's lyrics particularly complex in the first place.
|
| |
yeah they never been, its always been how he's framed them and the presentation that's held them up.

I agree with all of that. I feel like in half the songs he's not really saying anything at all though.

wtf is he even doing on "God"?

'it's just people trynna append meaning to shit since it's contextually half-relevant'
I can kinda see that, I liked Good Kid as an album because that framed itself like a big movie of sorts, it all ties nicely together as an overblown and over the top album in that sense. But this TPAB album feels like Kendrick's way too over his head and people are feeding into it when what he's saying and doing has already been done before and a lot better.

DAMN. is either a 2.5 or a 3

'but realistically he can't craft a good song to save his life, and faux-lofty concepts mean jack fucking shit '
My agreement with ya ends there, I think K-dots made a lot of really great songs but I also find myself enjoying Kendrick's more personal songs or the ones masked under enough concept to disguise the fact they don't say as much as people think they do. Nothing wrong with indulging in "faux-lofty concepts", right? I'd never claim that an album like TPAB is THE HIP HOP ALBUM OF OUR GENERATION!
'cleanside's finest 3 is timeless'
I'll give it a listen eventually.

Yeah this is getting a hard meh from me as well. Pretty disappointed, but I need to give it more time. Just feels haphazard and rushed.

Entire album is like Humble, just banger after fuckin banger. Have to read the lyrics along with the album when I've fully stomached the music
|
| |
eh, we'll prolly never reach an agreement lol.
I'm liking DAMN. a lot more than TPAB. Beat on Humble is still the worst thing ive heard this year.
