Yeah, I grow to like this album more and more with every listen.
Was my least fave Tones when it came out probably, took years to grow.

It’s got a timeless feel. Like even if it came out tomorrow it’d be a big deal.

Production helps this one too, massive sound.

"change needed some screams in it somewhere"
I don't think that song would have gotten radio play if it had screams, might have changed the band trajectory forever

Change is decent, perfectly fine radio single.
It's just very overplayed, much like Be Quiet and Drive.

I mean Change isn't that bad of a song. I just don't personally care for it. I quit listening to the radio a long time ago because my collection is better lol. So I don't know what other songs of theirs got played. I just thought Change was bland.

I think change is great. BQAD and My Own Summer are the ones that are overplayed imo

None of those are overrated/overplayed for me
I however have no soft spot for Passenger. Great vocal performance, but a weaker track otherwise

Passenger rules

Passenger is fine but everyone rides that songs dick and it’s not even close to being the best song on that record

I’ve never heard deftones on the radio before and my parents said they never listened to them but somehow songs like change and be quiet and drive sounded nostalgic. I think it might just be a quality of some of their songs

They definitely do have that quality. I didn't do my full deep dive of their discog until 2018, and I already feel a nostalgic connection with a few of the records... especially Saturday Night Wrist and Koi No Yokan

When I'm checking out bands I like to listen in order from their first to last material to experience it as it was made and see the, in this case, "change". Overall, in the end all their albums are really good. Love the progression, while maintaining form.
