Welcome to the Machine is great but it's the worst on Wish You Were Here imo.

That's Wish You Were Here Dude^
Have a Cigar > Shine On You Crazy Diamond (both parts) > Welcome to the Machine > Wish You Were Here
I'd be willing to swap Cigar and Shine On just for "objectivity" or whatever, but other than that... that's how I feel about.

idk if you had the slightest idea of the context of that song and what it means to millions of people you might not be so snobbish about it but what did I expect I guess

Sabbra Cadabbra is fuckin rocks but probably would barely crack my top 20 Sabbath. As much as I love Wish You Were Here, no it's absolutely not the best song ever. Debatable but most likely not, hell it even has an iteration of the most used chord progression in music ever if I remember the song's chords correctly.
But then again, it's a song about Syd's fucked state at that time and how fame and drugs can annihilate the greatest minds to walk among us mortals

to everyone in here
you have to understand that the chord progression and the "avant-gardeness" of the title track have absolutely nothing to do with its quality. it's a song that truly transcends itself, its meaning eclipses every part of its composition

I agree Rowan, but I was somewhat playing the devil's advocate for a second hehe

I can understand people saying it's their least favourite for sure but people straight up denying that it could be my favourite song of all time are fucking ridiculous
Welcome is not about Syd btw
and yes Shine On is about the same thing but it's a different song than WYWH and therefore has a different emotional impact

Shine On is a better homage to Syd than Wish You Were Here imo because I think of how much it captures that experimental spontaneity of their early stuff e.g. Interstellar Overdrive. But AGAIN, this don't mean in any way that WYWH is a bit on the (as some of you guys seem to imply, excluding you Angry) overrated side

It's fine that it's your favorite, but you were claiming that it was "the best song even written" which because this is the highest rated album on Sputnik other than Beethoven, it implies that you think it's almost objectively so.
and yeah Shine On is a better homage to Syd than Wish You Were [2] for sure and I probably wouldn't even argue against someone trying to claim that that's the best song ever, even if of course I also disagree.

"So who was the frontman after Barret? And who was the lead singer on WYWH?"
Gilmour and Waters shared being frontman for a while until The Final Cut where Waters was the frontman, then Waters quit so Gilmour became the sole frontman.

there is no such thing as objectivity, sorry if I don't post "in my opinion" with every single post I make to make it clear I am expressing my opinion and not the objective fact which, again, does not exist

I mean I don't believe in objectivity in music either, but so many people here do I considered that you might

"sorry if I don't post "in my opinion" with every single post I make to make it clear I am expressing my opinion"
Based on how many users on here actually believe music is objective, you might actually want to clarify. I know it seems ridiculous, but go into the Master of Reality thread and say "Into the Void isn't my favorite Sabbath song" and see what happens.
