Heir Apparent song is the first Opeth song in years to make me want to pick up my guitar, seems like a really fun playthrough

This is still my favorite Opeth record. Unsurprisingly also enjoyed Damnation, but this feels like the most palatable blend of heaviness and prog in their discog.

I completely agree with you, Sowing, when you say this album is the most palatable blend of heaviness and prog in their discog. It represents a perfect transition between both phases. This is why it's one of my favourite albums of them.

Yeah I think this gets diminished by what came before it and after it. Sandwiched between 2 different eras that are wildly different. Watershed was the second album I heard from Opeth after Blackwater park. I bought the extended edition online when it was brand new upon release and when Coil came on I was in love. The rest of this album is incredible as well

I feel like this is the weirdest Opeth, that's probably the album's biggest appeal. Always felt like they'd inevitably change up their sound even more on future releases, but I never expected them to go where they went. I feel like they bring back the weird on the new song, which has me excited about them possibly releasing a true follow-up to this one
