I will for sure man (waiting until my CD comes in on release day). I won’t let it sway me, just surprised.

For me it's a solid 4.5 atm. Musicianship is tight. Songwriting is top notch, almost as good as Lateralus, definitely better than Undertow. No bullshit interludes like on 10.000 Days. It's much better than I anticipated.

That's based on a first listen, though. Could end up being a 4 or a 5 with time. Who knows.

"Seeing too many “a solid 4s”. Not a 5, or at the very least a 4.5?"

I'll 5 it don't worry

Yeah I dunno, I guess the song writing and performances are pretty darn excellent, which I'll appreciate the more I'm familiar with it. But there's not a great deal of stylistic progression compared to their last releases that really excites me. A little too much deja vu, but hey we'll see, that's just first impression.

The mix is pretty tight, nice drum panning.

I felt extremely happy and satisfied while listening to the new record for the first time. They didn't fuck it up.

There is a non-zero risk that you lose your hearing tomorrow.

"i can’t believe there isn’t a vocal note on here that isn’t higher than the chorus on talktalk"

Ughhhh i so hoped that he would do at least a couple of higher notes. That sounds utterly disappointing, Maynard was the weakest link (along with the drummer) on Eat The Elephant too

FI is better than lateralus, it’s amazing. I think listeners are comparing too much with their previous albums and expecting more of the same. Really exceeded my expectations, I would have been happy with 10k part 2.

FI is better than lateralus

Hardly an achievement, but you've certainly piqued my interest

Can't we just enjoy this and not have all these passive-aggressive discussions,

he asked in vain.

I would have liked Maynard to let loose at least once on FI. Something similar to the "choosing to be here in~!" from Parabola would have sufficed.

I've grown to enjoy the title track quite a lot, still getting my head around the rest of the album. This will take quite a few listens to sink in properly, it's a proper record.

If I am completely honest, after 5 or 6 listens through, I just don't have an interest to go back to the record right now. I want to listen to it because it's new Tool but nothing captivates me and really pushes me to go back. Which is very depressing for me because I was incredibly hyped for this album. Was refreshing the tool reddit for news every day for the last month.
