Daydreaming is the clear highlight with Present Tense & TLW rounding out the top 3 imo

"'Burn The Witch' is the group's best opener to date, and the strongest offering on this record."

fucking what lmao

I mean 'Airbag' and 'Everything in its Right Place' there's not even an argument.

The majority of the rest are also superior but I could just about entertain the argument with those.

Both of those are so overrated doof. Especially the latter. Altho radiohead have never had amazing openers come to think of it

Oh Gyro, ever the contrarian.

Burn the Witch ranks as their 4th or 5th best opener for me probably.

Gyro even the first 5 seconds of each of those two songs is widely regarded as iconic and absolute classic :/

Gyro is a tough crowd.

No wait...I think he likes Grimes.

Their openers are okay, closers are way better tho. Videotape and motion picture come to mind

If you mean you personally find the songs overrated in regard to how YOU rate the songs in relation to the other songs in their discog fair enough.

The broader 'they're overrated in general' in the field of popular song as a whole is...it's established they're pretty decent songs, isn't 'Ok Computer' the highest rated album here and on RYM?

'For my next trick I claim all Beatles fans got it wrong.'

It's hard for me to see either the opener or the closer of 'Ok Computer' as overrated.

Lived with them so long and they always felt the most natural way to open and close the album.

I mean in regards to both songs I couldn't switch them with anything else in the band's discog to replace them in their roles...so you'd need Radiohead to write improved/even more fitting songs to replace them.

'Ok Computer' is so set in stone it feels like saying you want to replace the first and last scenes of a classic movie, it just seems wrong to me.

"Overrated" has never been my favorite word. It implies there's an objective right and wrong at play when really it's just degrees of preference. Particularly in the context of a band like Radiohead whom pretty much everyone loves to some extent it might be better to say something along the lines of "I never appreciated/enjoyed [blank] as much as most people seem to"; or at least give a reason for finding it overrated because otherwise you risk coming across as contrarian.

not any more than calling something good or bad, or using a rating scale. if you call something 'overrated' it's already a given that it's just an IMO thing. if you rate OK Computer less than a 4.5/5 then, relative to your tastes, it is overrated.

fwiw i try to avoid the word too but yeah, it doesn't irk me

Well of course, but for the sake of discussion just dropping an "Ok Computer is overrated" is useless and doesn't tell me anything other than that you're a contrarian and really want me to know how much better you think your opinion is than mine. (Obviously though this depends somewhat on context and tone and doesn't apply to all uses of the word.) I've used the word myself before of course but still I prefer not to.

Amazing song but didn't know it was overrated to the point that people discussed it as the best closer EVER.
