I'm finding lately most Deftones are growers, it's just hard to tell if it's a grower that'll satisfy down the line (I love Yokan now) or something like Gore which is still unmemorable

This did not grow at all for me, pretty much did the opposite.

"I can definitely tell Ohms is gonna take some time, hardly any tracks left much of an impression on first listen."

"Idk, like I say it's only the first listen so I'm hoping it grows."

lol @ pleb

"Pittura Infamante" is a LOT better than I remembered

My favorites on this shift a lot but prayers, Pittura, and xenon stay at the bottom for me since day 1. Cool stuff but just much better content elsewhere

Why do the drums sound like that?

Production has always been flat on this, but production in general doesn’t bother me too much, so thought it was “ok” on here.

Ohms sounds 1000x times better though for sure

Production is flat and there are some pretty weird songwriting choices here but theres some really good stuff here too

Every band's discography needs an album like this, I don't love it but I certainly appreciate it. The production is still awful and it still kneecaps the album completely.

This sounds even worse after Ohms. Would bump this down but I still enjoy Prayers/Triangles, t/t, Rubicon, Doomed User and Phantom Bride (don't really get why people hate this song, tbh).

Who the fuck dropped the rating? This is still good, even after Ohms.

I'd also add Acid Hologram (dig the fuzz), Pittura Infamante (dig the upbeat riffs) and Hearts / Wires (dig the dynamic structure). (L)MIRL would also be great if the bass wasn't destroyed production-wise.

Really great record idk

I never disliked this album, though it is still their worst. I particularly love Acid Hologram, LMIRL, Rubicon, and Hearts/Wires.

That being said, now that I know what they're still capable of this late in their career (Ohms!), I like this even less now!

yap, considering lowering my rate, for that same reason...agreed...on other hand...you don't love Phantom Bride?

Even though Ohms is on another level compared to this, I’ll leave this at a 3.5

It’s still a good album, just below their standards

Yeah, I mean, it's still better than diamond eyes, but pales in comparison to Ohms ofc

Phantom Bride is amazing! I defended this quite a lot when it came out, but in comparison with KNY and Ohms it really is a little bit weak.. Not a bad album by any means tho.
