@Colton: Wow, what bad ears. You should get those replaced!

Hmm 2. half of Error also sounds like Pumpkins. Is this secretly a rip-off album?

2nd half of error is astounding.
No doubt about that, one of the strongest moments on the album.

I really wish the choruses on this were stronger. That's always been a huge selling point with me for these guys besides Chino's voice.

Yeah, definitely the complaints book is open now for Deftones. I never expected them to get heavier or punchy like their other releases (except snw or gore). Its definitely a smoother (yet unsettling) take here but filled with class and Deftones ID sonwritingwise, making it feel very mature and very 2020. Big props for Deftones, enjoy your 2s and 3s...I make sure I enjoy my 5.

Exactly. I mean they get better on the second half but this is why SNW is my favorite Deftones; all the melodies are killer there.

As much as I love snw, this is substantianlly better track by track and connection between them

I can't pick out a song from any album where I thought Sergio shined as a bass player. I can't pick out any catchy bass lines - he kind of blends in seamlessly with the rest of the band. I think he's a solid player and fits within Deftones, but I couldn't tell you if he's actually added anything to this band that wouldn't have been there before, other than now existing in it.

Bass is a highlight here.
I know you guys have this little snw family going on here and Valkoor is one of its ultimate gatekeapers. I tk you all for making me appreciate that album more, that otherwise pissed me off as hell at the time. I still think tracks like Mein or Rats very ugly, but yeah, they still have their appeal.

Hard disagree. SNW just kill it on every front. No weak songs (if we don't count the joke at the end of Pink Cellphone), better display of both shoegaze and batshit heavy moments, better vocals from Chino throughout... no comparision.
Even if we compare the more "standard" Deftones songs on SNW (Mein or Xerces) they would still be standouts here.
