That's the reaction that happens when your band is as critically acclaimed as Neurosis. You get the benefit of the doubt when you're that canonized

I understand the skepticism. I read his statement more as a way to clarify he has been the shitty one and not his wife, as some retards claimed. The fact his wife hasn't left him despite all the rumors through the years makes me give him the benefit of doubt. Also he seems to be very aware of his sociopathic behavior. I really hope he gets psychiatric help.

He's on SERIOUS medication too.

I dunno. On the one hand, coming clean like that is respectable.
But on the other hand, the more cynical part of me thinks this would’ve come to light and he just jumped out ahead of it to try and maintain some control of whatever narrative.
And not to mention you’ve made your wife’s life a living hell and possibly mentally scarred your child for life.

I dont think anyone is minimizing his behavior. Hoping that someone gets the help they need shouldn't be a bad thing.

"The fact his wife hasn't left him despite all the rumors through the years makes me give him the benefit of doubt."
That doesnt really count for anything at all though, victims of abuse stay in abusive relationships all the time.

I don’t disagree. I’ve just seen a very similar kind of behavior described here personally and it kind of struck a nerve.

@deathconcious
on the fucking money. Her staying with him through this doesn’t account for shit.

Also, many people hold this band, its members and their work very highly. It may be stupid to any number of you, but their music legitimately changed my life. Give serious fans a chance to process this information before attacking their reactions.
|
| |
agreed, but also, if you're a huge fan of something, keep in mind: your fondness of the band might make you say stuff without thinking, so consider processing this new information silently and without getting into arguments about it, or worse, attacking those involved without knowing what actually went down
i myself have been guilty of this so i get it can be tempting to let your emotions control you, but it's not good

It's been known for years Scott is sociopathic, so I wouldn't think his post is a knee jerk reaction to cover himself. He's been on hard meds for awhile. I just hope leaving his career to help himself in a different way finally helps him change.
"victims of abuse stay in abusive relationships all the time"
That's true. Best she could do is leave him if you ask me, but hey whatever they are dealing with or however they are dealng with is their problem only. I just wish them well, and hope he fixes/have fixed his behavior for good.

oh no doubt evil, and I’m not trying to take some moral high ground or anything.
For what it’s worth, I do like the band a lot, and The Eye of Every Storm is honestly one of my favorite records.

You think that that is the only thing that makes u say stuff without thinking?
Let me introduce u to sputnikmusic dot com
|

i mean yeah i say stuff without thinking for several reasons lol but having identified this reason in particular should make it less likely, especially around such a sensitive topic (?

I'm just saying, there's going to be a lot of speculation going on in this case in all directions, i.e. what his motives are with coming clean, etc. Telling people who are fans of their music to have a silent reaction while everyone else is spouting off is fairly disingenuous
|
| |
i'm not saying that you shouldn't speculate -- you can speculate on your own no problem! it probably helps processing what's happening emotionally too
what i don't think is super good is making that speculation a public argument, and especially, i don't think that it's ok in any capacity to hurl abuse and attacks at his wife based on speculation that is entirely made up in one's head

Oh absolutely not. He said point blank he is responsible for all of it. Did I miss someone itt attacking his wife?
|
| |
not itt, but it's been the reaction of a lot of fans, and it's what i thought was part of what you meant when you said "(g)ive serious fans a chance to process this information before attacking their reactions", completely missing the context of the previous page lol
posting without thinking again, my apologiez
edit: and yeah, my condolences to the guy, but even more so to his wife and his kids

No absolutely not. Any form of abuse is not ok and he's not immune from that just because he's made some of my favorite music.
My initial gut reaction to the situation was just sadness.
Obviously, Scott was in the wrong for this shit, he admitted it. Im not going to speculate on his motives for going public with this. I do hope he gets the help he needs, as should everyone. That doesn't mean that anything that he did was alright or that I dont empathize with his family. I have kids. I couldn't imagine doing that shit and they will probably need therapy and psychiatry, maybe for the rest of their lives. Absolutely heartbreaking for them. It's just a sad situation. And yes, fans attacking his wife, especially after his confession really need their sanity checked.

His own reasoning for giving this statement to the world was that people were accusing his wife of being the problem. I doubt this was online it seems more of a people who know them thing. And he's come out to tell people to stop it as he had to address something that 'happened' . This is the part were knowing the dude I do take that as face value but I understand why many wouldn't and see it as getting ahead of it. None of us know.
