I know what you mean. About a year ago I was going through a phase of just buying all the hyped albums on CD even if I'd barely heard the bands before.

Lostprophets - The Betrayed (I only had ever liked a few of their songs before but this ended up as my album of the year)

TDEP - Option Paralysis (I'd only heard F,ML and didn't like any of their older stuff but I enjoyed this)
