Opeth’s music can most accurately be compared to snowflakes.

In the area of music perception, a melody is an organized series of individual tones on the physical level. However, it is more complex on a perceptual level. A musical melody can be defined as the succession of tones which is processed in terms of multiple structured relationships. Melody perception thus emphasizes the active role of human brain, meaning that it relies on the listener’s perception to take a sequence of sounds and transform them into a meaningful mental experience. The multifaceted nature of melody signifies that even simple tunes engage multiple sets of mental operations used for interpreting tonal relations. Therefore, the neuroscience of melody aims to ‘tap into the moment-to-moment history of mental involvement with the music’. Apart from studying melodic perception deficits in individuals with localized brain damage, one primary approach to identifying brain regions involved in melody perception is the haemodynamic approach based on techniques such as Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Do you like Opeth? Their early work was a bit too death metal for my taste but when Blackwater Park came out in '01, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism tha

Opeths music can most accurately be compared to snowflakes. Every snowflake is unique; diverse; one of a kind. Each one has something special about it. On its own it symbolizes the advent of something beautiful and captivating, while as one of a flurry it falls serenely, forming a picturesque scene so stunning it defies words. Just like snowflakes, every Opeth song is special in its own right. Within an album, the music is like a flurry ensnaring the senses with emotionally charged progressive. Given the excellent structures and production values of Blackwater Park, the tidal waves of emotionally epic metal crash down harder than ever. Words cannot describe the beautiful pain inflicted by such progressive metal.
