"East coast: Serious lyrics about social, political and philosophical issues
West coast: Bitchez luv me cuz i have tons of ca$h and cars"
You are honestly an idiot and shouldn't talk about hip hop when you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Like most things in life it's a mix, check Biggie for example, he rapped about social issues all the time but he did also talk about chicks and how much they loved him because of his status.

The west coast doesn't talk about bitches loving them they talk about death in the streets and struggling to survive on a daily basis whether it be from gang banging or drug dealing. People on the west coast rapped about what they saw and what they were going through. Sorry they couldn't focus on politics which they didn't have an opportunity to learn about, or didn't have time to learn about.
If you don't think what they're rapping about is/was a social issue, you're just stupid

Just because I like Drake doesn't mean I'm not knowledgeable about what I'm talking about. What a terrible argument.

Don't worry m8
I get your argument. As I said, I don't think it's an absolute rule. But I feel it wasn't that weird to find rap that talks about the "gangsta" life as a life that's cool and worth living because of all of its stupid banalities.
On a different argument. In the sound department, I tend to find more variety on East Coast's rap. Mainly because of the jazz/funk influences, while West Coast's stayed more with your "typical rap" sound. There are exceptions of course, for instance, I like Run DMC but their sound is certainly one of the most generics I've seen on old school rap

???
If anything the east coast was more typical. The west was all about 70s and 80s funk samples/remixes. As well as original compositions with deep bass, synthesizers, and horns. This is beyond confusing to me. Thats what the west is known for, the beats.
