Like noctus said, it’s nice to hear what everyone else has been hearing from this band. Thoroughly enjoying my discography run.

"you have a point that it's more digestible, but it's not necessarily better haha. Times of Grace, A Sun That Never Sets or The Eye Of Every Storm would be a good starting point I guess"
Yeah, I would definitely not have a newcomer go with Fires Within Fires next. I agree with these recommendations. I would like to add Through Silver and Blood, but that one is a real endurance test at times, so that's probably not one of the best starting points either even though it's one of their very best.

My buddy told me to hop straight into Through Silver as a Neurosis noob. Was planning to dig into it after my first ISIS discog run

given to the rising is a good place to start imo

Agreed Scoot. It perfectly captures and grapples with all the shit the world is going through right now.

Yea guys, I have seen the light, this shit slays. Even with my reservations I'm enjoying it. The production gives me life, it's so MF GOOD.

Just gave this a full listen. Definitely not a bad album, but I'm failing to understand why there is so much hype behind it. Could be just because I don't typically listen to this style of music. I will keep listening to their other stuff and maybe I'll grow to enjoy it more. Until then though, I'd say this album is good but not great. Anyone have any recommendations for the next album to check out?

@pickle For someone who doesn't normally listen to this kind of music, I would say probably The Eye of Every Storm would be a good one.

"My buddy told me to hop straight into Through Silver as a Neurosis noob. Was planning to dig into it after my first ISIS discog run"
Your buddy knows you better than us. I think what it really comes down to is your tolerance for repetition. I feel it's hypnotic, but some people don't like it, or it takes another album in order for them to be able to come back and appreciate it. I think that's how it worked for me.

my essential but accessibility balancing act / rankings after this would probably go…
Eye of Every Storm
Souls at Zero
A Sun That Never Sets
Given to the Rising
Times of Grace
Through Silver In Blood (this is my #2 but always thought it was the ‘toughest’ to get)
This isn’t my personal favoured ranking, but it’s all essential, so who cares

I would also put Enemy of the Sun on there, but I seem to be one of the few people who thinks that album is one of their best.
|
| |
yeah, I dunno where I’d place that for accessibility, I just don’t view it as essential. Interesting, transitional album tho (weirdly, even tho Souls is by definition a ‘transition’ given where they started, it feels fully realised idk)
