Isis borrowed from Neurosis because Neurosis INFLUENCED them. Not really that hard to understand. It's not only Neurosis though, sludge and Godflesh influenced them too. They just evolved their sound after Celestial.



Post-metal is pretty old, about a decade old. Instead of thinking it as 'post-metal', think of it as atmospheric sludge. Yeah, the basic blueprint involved Neurosis, then Cult of Luna, Isis, and Pelican (and whatever early HH bands). But many bands are not copying Neurosis, just the bands that copied Neurosis, making their sound real saturated and bland. The ideas aren't that great and they meander here and there, sounding like shitty post-rock influenced sludge metal bands with pseudo-atmosphere.
