"Lol, my god Cas"

I'm not exactly wrong, am I? Those were rather stylistically distinct from Maiden due to Roy Z.

You are partly wrong. I wouldn't see Tyranny Of Souls as ahead of this. Chemical Wedding and Accident of Birth on the other hand are also ahead of nearly all other post 1980s Maiden... so that's not a point to prove the worthlessness of Senjutsu.

It's not as good as the prior two albums but again, even the lesser tracks on Tyranny have more inspired moments than the best song here.

I could understand a 2.5 or even a 2. But yeah, a 1 seems a little edgy for an album that is at least not offensive to the ears, regardless of how dull you might find it. Nicko still brings the heat and there are some solid riffs here

There's a point where being aesthetically inoffensive is nk longer a boon to you and this album more or less shows that in action.

The most ridiculous thing is to 1 this while liking The Final Frontier... their most inoffensive auto pilot album to date. Yeah, synths are worse here (but that is at least a new element, something TFF does not possess, apart from that ridiculous intro) and Bruce isn't exactly at the top of his game, but this is so much more energetic and purposeful compared to TFF (which is still a decent album, just unremarkabke)

Yeah, I don't get that. While deeply flawed like every post-BNW, TFF's peaks beat anything on this in terms of performance and structure. Even if Senjutsu's not as immediately laughable as Virtual XI is, it is as vapid as that album.

I mean, Casavir prefers Charlie Dominici to early James LaBrie, so what do you expect?

No, I prefer Dominici to post-Scenes LaBrie.

Honestly think this is worth a 4. What happened to me was that I wasn't able to get into Bruce's vocals on the first few tracks on the first listen, I felt underwhelmed. However, all of those feelings went away on the consecutive listens. The second half is legit classic Maiden, and the first half is good to very good. How do they do it!
