I’ve been anticipating every release since TWoaF and have had my expectations blown out of the water each time, until this release. It’s got some spice for sure, but overall falls short of their trajectory. For a lot of seasoned listeners that’s enough to warrant disgust and I get that. You are right about anti-hype though, and this user base seems particularly susceptible to it. I just don’t think it’s entirely the case here.

I think if the first review was a 4 we'd be seeing a whole lot of 4s, but sure. To me this is much more interesting than Magma as a whole. Also, I really don't see this as being mainstream for whatever reason, at least not when compared to Magma, which was their definite Metallica s/t moment. This feels like a natural progression, but it's all good if you don't like it, just don't be an antihype beast YO

I don't think it's 'anti-hype' per-se, maybe vocal disappointment? A lot of hype was thrown around when the first couple singles dropped (in both scoring ranges) but there's a nostalgic, "maybe they'll drop another Way Of All Flesh" type of resonance that wasn't only lived up to but was riddled with production issues. I'll admit, there's bits and pieces I adored on this - but it's largely outweighed by that disappointment I mentioned.

I've never understood this argument. If you like something, you like something. I think it's really silly to be swayed by just one person's opinion to drastically change your rating. It's the same as when people say the same thing about Needledrop changing someone's entire opinion on an album just because he reviewed it poorly. Just because I gave Fortitude a 3 (which isn't even that low to begin with), doesn't mean everyone's just gonna drop what they're currently doing and lower their score
Not to mention, it's not like NoTrap's rating is much higher than mine

tl;dr of my comment above: fuck averages, just enjoy what you enjoy. Paramore's s/t only has a 2.9 on here... guess what? I still gave it a 4 'cause I like it a lot anyway
