A keyboardist having too much creative control? Well, that's very dumb... Real shame then

It think the band had/has gotten to the point where much of the arrangement and even riff writing were being handled by the drummer and the keyboardist (!?!?!), with Chris and Johan just being asked to play the stuff they were told, and then write solos for the record. Iwers would just be shown his lines to play also. Another comment I heard one of the guys say was that "At the beginning of the recording process, Martin and Anders Jivarp come in with a bunch of song ideas, and we start working from those." I am paraphrasing with much of this stuff, btw, but that was the general idea.
Brandstrom's touch is all over Moment, and the more intricate arrangements heard of records like Character and Fiction have pretty much completely vanished at this point. This could be due to the departure of both Sundin and Henriksen, Jivarp's growing disinterest, Brandstrom's increased input and control, or simply the band getting older and wanting to write more straightforward shit. Who knows.
What is clear, is that this isn't the DT of old... I like this record for what it is, but legendary slabs like Fiction and Character will always be my favorite from this band.

Yeah, I feel the opposite works much better for them - start with the riffs, then add keyboards and everything else, not the other way around.

Hot take but this is equal to fiction for me. The leads are just fucking incredible here. It’s definitely dark tranquillity but it feels like they’ve traveled back in time with this

Construct and onward feels like a completely different band to me, but with this one and Atoma I definitely think they've demonstrated they can still write great melodies.

I love how some people peg Fiction to be their classic where it's probably not even in their top 5

the stretch from the dark unbroken to a drawn out exit is so good

Phantom Days is a solid opener too. That solo is addictive.

Wonder if the guys will release anything soon, given that Stanne seems pretty focused on the other project

I think they said they are currently in the studio for their next album.

oh word? LETSGOOOOOOO
Jivarp is one of my favorite metal drummers, but he really let me down on this record (and wasn't particularly amazing on a lot of Atoma as well)
Looking forward to what the new guys bring to the table if they get any say in the creative process

Turns out they are close to finishing the album now. Definitely excited to hear it, but I hope they change things up a little bit and let Christopher Amott and Johan Reinholdz be more free with their solos.
