" I maintain that Starlight was the beginning of the end for them,"
starlight is one of the worst songs ever recorded

'Drones still had some great highlights on it.'
I don't like Drones, the fact they have two albums somehow worse than it is quite the achievement. Reapers is a decent song though.

Can't believe I used to think these guys were equal to Radiohead

Starlight brings the feels, I really like that song tbh. I tend to think it's annoyingly catchy, but this feeling is gone when the song is playing.

I think it serves a good job to get pop listeners (or people who don't pay that much attention to music in general) to listen to some Muse, so imo it's a great introduction. It's pretty poppy yeah, but it still maintains their sound that they were known for on their more catchy cuts (Time is Running Out etc)

'Can't believe I used to think these guys were equal to Radiohead'
One step further... when you used to think Muse were better, in fact when you though they were the best thing that ever existed.
Actually, I miss those days...

Gotta say though i dislike both Pablo Honey and The Bends. Save for a few highlights (mostly on The Bends) there's literally nothing that makes me want to come back to those albums

The Bends is massively overrated & Pablo just flat out sucks so I'd agree with you there, but Radiohead's better material is easily superior.

I'd say that Muse's best material (OOS, Absolution, BH&R) is about on par with RH for me but on a whole, Radiohead is supremely more consistent than Muse unfortunately

I always saw it as OOS (Muse’s best) about on par with Radiohead when they’re good, but doesn’t touch Radiohead at their best.

That is a valid opinion but i have a really close connection to Muse so i'm a bit more positive regarding that.

"in fact when you though they were the best thing that ever existed"
Definitely felt that during their tour for this album. Jumping and singing along with thousands of euphoric people is just great. Don't get that so much with the death metal bands I usually see. Or Radiohead, I would imagine.

You get that with Pearl Jam where a sold out baseball field were all singing in unison. I got it with Slayer about a month ago where an entire arena was screaming the same lyrics.

muse have just become an arena band. great fun live, but sounds hollow as hell when listening to them at home. similar to kasabian. dont know anyone that actually likes their shit but everyone goes to see them live

Alright, calm down there.
(I agree with the Kasabian thing.)
