For me, in the current post metal spectrum:

1. The Ocean

1a. Cult Of Luna

2. Rosetta?

3. Amenra?

4. ??

5. Haven't really gave it that much thought..

Maybe its a beast of its own and should not enter the post rank

I would say Phan I and II are more similar to Precambrian than to any of the remaining albums, also no album is more similar to Precambrian than these two, which is logical given the fact that they're meant to be its sequels 'n shit

@Flug: tbf to Teamster he said ‘current’ and Neurosis’ most recent material is undoubtedly their weakest effort to date.

I agree with Flug. Kinda missing the long form ‘post’ song structures to fit neatly in the Post Metal category for me. Sure there’s the downtuned guitars and the vocals but for me the influence is most felt in the subject matter of the lyrics and the artwork. Although it’s diversified a bit, post metal always seems to lean toward macro level subjects and imagery.

Yeah but Neurosis hasn't retired yet, they're still active as far as I know.

Neurosis, Rosetta, Cult of Luna, and Isis are all better than The Ocean.

Disagreed on Rosetta, but I’m okay otherwise. And yes of course Neurosis are better Flug, I was just saying maybe he’s taking that into consideration... probably not though, especially if he isn’t really a fan.

Demon, you should prob check Psychonaut's Unfold the God Man from earlier this year in case you missed it (like I did). You too, flug. Could see you both enjoying it. Prog-tinged post-metal, Ocean-esque, in a way.
