Ooh la la is so good and has been in my head all day. It's even better in the video with the people dancing to it

im don't know that i'd call them more simple, structurally speaking i think rtj stuff is quite a lot more straight forward than a lot of his old stuff. but the old stuff is definitely less condensed or something.

i think the sheer mass of rtj material is somewhat misleading when it comes to complexity.

RTJ beats sound mroe dynamic and complex, whereas those CO ones seem more streamlined and sparse, it wasn't meant to be a negative, they just have less going on.

Yeah. New stuff is more dynamic and voluminous, but the old stuff is more structurally complex and definitely less accessible.

I don't think sparse necessarily includes streamlined

No, his own stuff is definitely different, but I think in the CO case, it's a lot more on a line.

yeah i disagree. its just a lot more subtle and nuanced with respect to older stuff. and even then thats not even universal. i think the ending of TOJ is some of the most claustrophobic, smotheringly dense shit he's ever done for instance. to the point that it's almost too much. and that structure of that song is absolutely bonkers too. rtj wears everything on its sleeve, it all hangs out there and it makes it sound like a lot more is going on. structurally i find rtj to be pretty standard, which is indicative of its wide appeal.

production is a big component too, a lot of his older stuff was made to sound much more spacey and lofi, rtj is mixed and produced in a way to sound as massive as possible.

Yeah I couldnt disagree more. CO is super nuanced theres a lot going on you dont hear first few times wheres as RTJ is more balls out in your face, up front and loud.

I agree with all that, I just get a more, as you said, in your face feel, it's all there, with RTJ, where El's other stuff sounds more experimental to me. But those CO songs aren't exactly "busy", I guess is what I mean.
