Oh dear indeed.

Not sure if I'm getting bored of DM or if this really was a big step-down from their debut.

I wouldn't say it was a huge step down, but it is inferior to the debut, yes.

I remember liking it but not returning to it. Have it at a 3.5 and should probably jam it again.

I was really impressed by how distinct the Venenum release sounded, would rather that than yet another band playing ‘bare bones’ OSDM revival. Not accusing these guys of that btw, despite their influences the end result isn’t wholly derivative, but some bands aren’t quite so inventive.

God, I'm so sad that I missed them and Immolation. Stupid 21+ shows. Welp, only 1 year to go. But yeah, shit is completely fucking bananas.

Is it wrong if I think that this is just another solid death metal release? I mean, what makes this so special? The execution is great, but the music has a "been there done that a million times" vibe all over the place.

I enjoyed it, but it's kinda whatevs.

Nothing wrong with just thinking this is solid. But I have seen more than just you say it sounds like it’s retreading some stuff and I just don’t get that. Even with several great ‘cosmic’ death metal bands at their peak right now (Artificial Brain, Tomb Mold, for example) I don’t hear anything quite like this. Even looking back to stuff from which this certainly takes as inspiration, I don’t feel like they’ve recycled anything. They already had their own identity and they just further solidified it here.
