Neige's best guitar tone was with that rusty old thing he used for the clean sections on Souvenirs and Ecailles. That's like the nicest sounding guitar I've ever heard

Yeah, kodama and this are way too fucking clean and sterile in places

He's a massive Mascis/Big Muff fan, so I think that the last two Alcest albums have been his attempt to bring the sounds of the late 80s and early 90s indie world into the 'blackgaze' that the band had been doing since the beginning. I also got the impression from an interview last year that he had grown tired of the style from the first three albums, and wanted to streamline the band's sound and atmosphere in favour of more immediate songwriting and production. I definitely don't see anything from the band being sterile, but I can see why someone would prefer the earlier albums to this and Kodama.

I know that he also uses a Fulltone OCD overdrive, a TC Electronic Hall of Fame reverb, and probably something like the Boss DD-3 for delay. There's not much beyond that though, which is ironic how Alcest has become synonymous with contemporary shoegaze.

I liked this but it didn't have a lot of staying power. As in i don't feel the need to jam it again.

Have to give it a go soon and see how i feel about it.

I understand enjoying media is personal, I also really, really want to see the dewi counterpoint in review form. I’m far from suggesting people aren’t allowed to have differing opinions- that shit would get pretty boring, especially on sput

Are you thinking he could convey his enthusiasm about this album so much you would begin to love it?

Aaaaahh I don't know, don't think I could offer a proper explanation on how is this a 4.5! It is for me though! Love the songs, love the production, specially drums and that guitar tone, and Neige's voice is better than ever!

Yeah I was surprised at Dewi's rating for this too. It seems to be people who think Kodama is their best that love this

This takes the sound of Kodama, and brings back more of the metal influence from Écailles and Le Secret, which is why I personally love this so much. Førtifem's art with this album is also wonderful.
