he likes the attention lol
@nightbringer thanks for the late response haha, I guess I can see what you mean
yeah the fact that this is their lowest rated album in like 15 years or whatever is absolutely baffling, and I know it's because the anti-hype caught wind (cough cough I'm looking at you Mr. Zilla) but it's still just asinine.
I like Ixora, it has some good tracks, but it also gets stuck on some of the cheesier/immature songwriting habits that Marsh drifted towards earlier in their career. This album is more consistent, provocative, mature, and far more experimental than anything else they've done before.

I don't think this album was hyped at all. I've been meaning to check the band out since Sunshine, which definitely generated more hype than any of their other releases, but I never got around to it, and as it happens so, Blushing was my first record by them.

"hype" meaning nobody was really paying attention to them, but then this dropped and it sat at 4.3-4.4 for a couple days, then it was the number one trending album on here for at least two weeks, maybe three. kinda came out of nowhere, and already has twice as many ratings as their last album (which came out 5 years ago). So once it became top of trending and people who don't care about them start noticing, the anti-hype swoops in a suddenly a bunch of nonsensical 1.0s make the average drop hard.
If Ixora got nearly as much attention as this did, its avg would be even lower

Bands are free to do whatever the fk they want. People prefer different types of music. Typically if you like a band, especially one as well established as this one, you enjoy that genre of music.
You are acting as if it's unreasonable for me to dislike a bands album on the basis of them switching to a genre I do not much prefer. Why is that unreasonable? To me, this full on indie pop stuff is their worst album to date. "Yea but you say that just because they switched genres" .. Why can't I say that?

Here - maybe. I was mainly talking about RYM, to be honest.
