I mean lets be honest, if I could do it, anyone can

well they don't realize how lame it makes them look when they pick easy targets like pop stars. i'm convinced none of them could actually write a good and substantive negative review for an album like this.

'Also any band where the entire group writes their songs has just as many songwriters, what is the deal with the self righteousness people get out of vocally and persistently hating mainstream pop? There must be some deep seated fomo or need to be a part of some purist trend or something for you guys to be so deeply upset about something so trivial and non-controvertial '
Think it's the opposite. You can dislike a band for their song writing...you can also dislike a pop team of song writers for their song writing.
I guess I'm slightly more intrigued by the pop artists who mainly write their own material just because it's tricky to write a whole album of material by yourself and keep quality/diversity up :/
It's the most unforgiving genre in the album format a lot of the time. I'm not against covers and/or bringing in other song writers in and of itself.

Well you have to be genuinely familiar with a music style before you can write a meaningful negative review rather than just ad hominem. And that ain’t happening unless someone has a want of understanding

@doof I think there a bit of a disconnect cuz I dont disagree with any of that

pop music sucks!!!!!!!

Nice thread.
I want to check this so I can have an informed opinion but given my current thoughts on Ariana’s music and ‘mainstream pop’ in general I’ll inevitably slap a 1.5-2.0 rating on it... and not for any biased/untoward ‘proper music’ reasons.

Now it's a party

I’ve been known to give reknowned pop albums 3/5... this makes them better than anything by Metallica, Oasis, Alice in Chains, RHCP, BTBAM or countless other popular(ish) rock/metal acts. Context is everything my friends.

Pots I 100% always understand where you're coming from even if I don't share your opinion so I never really experience disconnect
'Sometimes people perseverate so much on what they dislike that they almost remove their ability to understand why someone else could feel differently and not view their enjoyment through some ultra jaded , cynical lens. And at this point disagreement is usually personalized ... idk just hella insecurity or something.'
You see I disagree totally with this line of thinking - negative reviews and comments are frequently the funniest and most interesting. I think people understand that other users can like something they don't, I never get the feeling people are being genuinely hounded for what they listen to. Well, except in some extreme cases maybe.

I never said they can’t be funny or interesting. And you can disagree all you want but I’m going off of a multitude of encounters I’ve had on here where people are befuddled at how I can like something they don’t. This isn’t some theory of mine.

shut up and like what i like

@demon that's cool theres a big difference between not enjoying something and obsessively feeling the need to make a huge obnoxious point out of not enjoying something
|

Ghandi that's the thing, literally no one cares about whether or not you like this. It's absolutely trite. Your opinions do absolutely nothing to validate or invalidate anyone elses. Yet you keep coming around desperately seeking validation yourself for your overwhelmingly negative perceptions and all it does for you is make you come across as tragic and unlikable.

There are multitudes of ways and reasons to experiance and enjoy music, the infantile notion of boxing yourself in over misperceptions of authenticity so you can feel like you have a more valid or worthwhile musical depth than other people and chronically auto-fellate yourself over it isnt impressive or remarkable.

Nah I came back because this album gets bumped so much. Also my last comment was 10 days ago so..

Tl;dr shut up indeed. But dont bother liking what I like, no one cares.
|

Its not personal, it goes for everyone who does this. I used to do it, I get the attitudes that it stems from.
|

I'm speaking generally and the same things can be said for people who wont accept when someone cant comprehend not liking something that is unanimously praised and has to assume it's just being contrarian. It's all about not being forceful.
