It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't release much better albums before it. This is a giant step back in every way. Two singles are okay. I'm fine with never hearing the rest of the album again. And I love this band.

Stone Leader Falling Down 100% transparency when it comes to that meshuggah riff opening it, thats more than worship, thats full on fellatio lol

These Black Claws ain't even that bad. Freak is the worst on the new one for how monotonous it is

yea new one is pretty disappointing. feels like a dumbed down version of inmazes

I've thouroughly enjoyed everything they've done and yeah, for me there's no doubt that as a whole Witness is their best album so far. Production is the best they've had, and they've found a good balance between the more djenty sound of Inmazes and the catchiness of Applause, all while throwing some curveballs to keep things fresh.
I do admit that I'm not completely sold on Freak yet and that's the only lower point of the album for me, but everything else is gold.
24 Light Years is easily SOTY for me, I said it when they first released it and I stand by it now.

Don't know what the disappointed people were expecting unless it's a bunch of more soft stuff like on Applause. For me, witness has perfectly rounded out there sound to this point. The album is immaculately paced. Balance between soft and heavy throughout the album is so tasteful. And that aspect really shines between all the tracks. Stone leader could not hit harder. Witness isn't much of a departure for them, but it has been refined. And like any great group of albums, there are unique facets of their sound that can only be found on Inmazes and Applause.

There's not one song on the new album that beats anything on Inmazes. Applause has much catchier songs and better lyrics.

straight lines, 24 light years, napalm and inside your fur all exceed any track on inmazes and that album is great - certainly not hating on it but they've refined their sound to a pinpoint
applause's only flaw is the disparity between the heavy moments and softer moments sometimes doesn't land (smartfriend just isn't a very good track - nor are the really soft tracks like vertigo and green screen mother). they completely nailed that on witness, the balance is immaculate. i suppose the pacing on this record isn't that great either, but they fixed that too
never really focussed on the lyrics of this band tbh - they're so good at evoking feeling through their atmosphere alone they could be singing anything and it'd still land
