Revolt against the mass public.
Revolt against the modern world.

My last comment was just a (bad) joke referencing a Julius Evola book tbh. Sorry, it was a terrible "joke".

Omfg i just realized the reviewer referred to the singing on The Albatross as histrionic. 97% of emo is histrionic and, if taken out of context, cringeworthy. The lyrical themes here are a bit more mature, but it's nowhere near as barebones as TA, vocally, lyrically, or sonically. But then again, this album definitely isn't emo and it doesnt pretend to be.

I mean it’s emo as in “emotional” but not emo as in what the style usually sounds like

Lmao radiocore is actually a great term for this, I’m sorry hahahaha

I’m feeling like ppl are definitely seeing it in the electronic stuff and guitar tones, they are pretty typical sounds to find on alt radio. But the structures are much more complex

It’s also got a very clean production that’s essential for radio play

The first time i heard slapstick i thought i was listening to alt nation lol. Whole first half, really. Not necessarily a bad thing, but bands, especially up and comers, take radioplay and exposure a lot of different ways, and normally it isn't very good. However, there are bands, like The National, that can make their way to the radio very organically after achieving cult status, and still flourish without compromising their sound. Tough rope to walk.

I actually heard them on the radio earlier this week...but I live in their hometown ... and it was an independent radio station that has played the likes of Godspeed You, Death Grips and a plethora of indie emo, so it wasn't that surprising. As far as being on a bigger alt radio station, I could see it, but I dunno if they're "big" enough .

I still think this album is a massive swing and a miss (just hate the vocals and falsetto so much and the synths are very cheesy to me) but I will say that the review summary is perfect for a positive review. Good stuff.

Debating if I really want to bump or not but it’s definitely better than the 3.8 rating it has... Maybe a 4.1-4.2.

This definitely doesnt deserve an average more than the one on rym, the 3.8 here is pretty generous due to sput having a big ol boner for this band
