I'm not sure if I would call "Day I Die" truly by-the-numbers, it does carry that signature National flavor

it's crazy how much this has been growing on me. First 3 listens or so I thought this was a 3 and agreed with a lot of the criticisms people are having about it being boring / kinda by the numbers, but now at about 7 listens this is probably a 4.5, I'm guessing it'll end up about as good as TWFM. The slower tracks really opened themselves up to me with more listens (and admittedly having a really bummed out saturday afternoon to really let this soak in helped a lot). I wonder if the people who think this is a 3 just haven't listened to this in the right circumstances/mindset yet.

It's almost like people have forgotten that all their stuff grows hard. I'm not rating this before the 10 listen mark

That's fair foxxxy, I'm all about different opinions as long as you're respectful and don't act like your opinion is objectively perfect and everyone who disagrees is an idiot (not accusing you of doing so, that's just a general statement)

Wait I loved that Boney was dragging Lucid because he does do that all of the time!

Whether someone thinks that TWFM is better than this or not I don't see how anyone could think it's more energetic than this or any of their others. Even the piano-centered quieter sections on here feel more optimistic than the quiet parts of TWFM.
Day I Die doesn't sound like a mainstream rock song to me the way some people are painting it in this thread. It still has their sound, just indulging in their post-punk revival side a lot. Reminds me of Interpol.

Agreed; this is a lot less depressing than Trouble Will Find Me was. There's nary a glimmer of hope in that one. This one has a certain subtle optimism to it I think. Though melancholy is still the primary feeling, of course.

Yeah but this makes me appreciate TWFM even more, and I already loved it and rate it 9/10. It has this really dreary atmosphere, like a bleak ambience behind each song that's really effective and that I don't really hear on any of their other albums including this. HV kinda had something similar, but sounds a lot lighter and just different overall. Last 5 albums are all masterpieces for so many reasons.

Completely disagree with the vibe comments. This is so dreary and morose compared to Trouble Will Find Me which I find bright and energetic.

Sweet was about to check out the queens of the stone age album but just saw they just put out a new one so of course had to pick this. They are in my top 10 favorite bands so excited to listen!

Outside of lyrics and a few songs like slipped and heavenfaced i really don't see how it's their most dreary. Demons, sea of love, graceless, this is the last time etc., all seem pretty energetic and fun, sporting some huge sing along choruses

Well after first listen Im loving it,won't rate it yet. Need a few more listens has some jams though ,empire line stood out to me the most
