When I made that statement I wasn't thinking about the lyrics. Although they are generic too.

lol I love Green Light and Perfect Places but i'm not about to defend anyone saying they're generic because I totally get that.

Why even try to get right?

When you’ve outgrown a lover

The whole world knows but you

It’s time to let go of this endless summer afternoon

green light is a highlight on this album generally but works even more remarkably great as an opener.

The Kate Bush influences run rampant on a couple of these tracks, for the love of god I hope she continues down that path

Green Light doesn't feel "generic," as if it has an easy or seamless relationship to "genre," to me; the weird structural coup of having this sort of dark moody verse thing run up slam-bang against this elongated celebratory chorus....(Max Martin talks about how Lorde ignored his advice for structuring the song; maybe the Max Martin demo would feel wholly generic)

It's funny how that song poses itself to evaluation: I still don't like the moody verse part, still like the chorus a lot, and still don't know what to do about that re: the song

It's funny, I always thought that "Jealous" song from Beyonce s/t sounded like Beyonce heard some Pure Heroine demos (that album was released like two months before the s/t) and now we have "Hard Feelings" which sounds like Lorde was jamming "Jealous"
