When I made that statement I wasn't thinking about the lyrics. Although they are generic too.

Why even try to get right?
When you’ve outgrown a lover
The whole world knows but you
It’s time to let go of this endless summer afternoon

Green Light doesn't feel "generic," as if it has an easy or seamless relationship to "genre," to me; the weird structural coup of having this sort of dark moody verse thing run up slam-bang against this elongated celebratory chorus....(Max Martin talks about how Lorde ignored his advice for structuring the song; maybe the Max Martin demo would feel wholly generic)
It's funny how that song poses itself to evaluation: I still don't like the moody verse part, still like the chorus a lot, and still don't know what to do about that re: the song

It's funny, I always thought that "Jealous" song from Beyonce s/t sounded like Beyonce heard some Pure Heroine demos (that album was released like two months before the s/t) and now we have "Hard Feelings" which sounds like Lorde was jamming "Jealous"
