Jut listened to a few tracks from Black Peaks, and it's actually pretty damn good. Not sure I completely agree with the Deftones/dredg/PT comparison though. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

I think Rubicon and (L)MIRL are my favorites on the album.

this band doesn't disappoint with their closers and rubicon is no exception. not so jazzed about the rest of the album tho.

Huh. I love it, honestly. Only a couple songs don't really do much for me. What do you dislike about it so much, Ashen?

Rubicon is excellent, for sure. but the whole album does it for me really. Gore, Hearts/Wires, Xenon, (L)Mirl, Phantom Bride and the aforementioned Rubicon are my favorites so far, but the whole thing rips.

Plus, in true deftones fashion, it gets better with every listen

Acid Hologram is the classic deftones grower. the vocal melodies took like 4 listens to wrap themselves around my brain. plus the atmospherics in the 2nd half of the song are insane.

this is Delgado's best album since self titled imo

I can get behind that statement completely. Honestly, it might be even better.

You must have been listening to the wrong band because Deftones up to this point absolutely sucked at closing albums with the exception of Headup.

Headup wasn't the closer of that album...

at least not the CD i got back in the day. MX with Damone as the hidden track closed the album.

come to think of it yea

This Place Is Death fucking sucks ass, possibly the worst song on Diamond Eyes which is saying a lot, possibly the least gratifying album closer ever...

What Happened To You doesnt even make sense as an album closer and is also pretty anti-gratifying and just a not very interesting song in general

Moana and MX whatever, they are fine but its not like they are anything particularly spectacular to close with

Riviere and Pink Maggit are good album closers tho
