Apparently GY!BE was one of Bowie's favorite bands:

Would be a 4.0 instead of almost a 4.5.

The thing is, it's always sad when the old legends go but he had literally dropped this masterpiece three days ago. Nobody of that generation has ever attempted that. When was the last good dylan album? Floyd? Even Mcartney as much as I love him hasn't put out a masterpiece in years.
It's so sad, but such a bowie thing to do.

Agreed. This was the best way for Bowie to go out, if there is any good way for Bowie to leave us.

Nothing else sounds all that much like this album tbh.
Throw in the conceptual touches and yes, it's experimental

Day off work, went to the newsagents every front page was Bowie. Bought this from the local record shop, dropped in for a coffee where I noticed an old boy who must've been in his 70s reading a supplement about Bowies life.
It'll stay with me.

This is awesome. Feel slightly guilty for never checking out his stuff before, and only listening after he had passed. Thanks for everything Mr Bowie, RIP.

"always liked his stuff but never would of called myself a fan or listened to him much so time to change that"
that's fair, his stuff is pretty out of left field most of the time. but when you think of when it was made it's pretty experimental and groundbreaking

is this really as good as the ratings suggest or are these ratings higher because of his death? Not that that is not a legit reason for doing so. Just wondering.

A combination of both. I'd say this is his best and most ambitious record in decades, the fact the material on here deals directly with death and Bowie's passing was mere days after its release for me puts even more emphasis on the genius behind the lyrics and themes present on Blackstar.

From the superstar himself to the New York Times in 2002.
''Music itself is going to become like running water or electricity,'' he added. ''So it's like, just take advantage of these last few years because none of this is ever going to happen again."
I hope Dave had the chance to spin TDAG,it would've given him hope.

RIP, but why is this album better now that he's dead? This was getting 3.5 and 4s to scattered approval a week ago. Group thought smh
