"You know after relistening to this and bedwetter I’m beginning to worry that Travis May be a bit depressed"
nah, the dude seems fine
|
| |
At least we know he won’t try to kill himself lest he fails an has to live with hideous disfigurements
|
| |
Mista thug Live or die, I’d rather take the latter route
Take the ladder route
Rope around my neck and kick the ladder out
|
| |
Come to think of it he does whinge a bit doesn’t he
|
| |
To be fair he usually expresses his discontent in engaging ways with interesting production so I can look past the self pitying.
If he just posted about it on forums I don’t think he would be met with the same reception and pots may also be in his shoutbox encouraging him to shut up and do it

Well it’s pretty recurrent theme for musicians to express their self hatred and depression through their music, lum is more explicit about it given he’s in hip hop but what would you think when the same sentiment expressed through PE or a more implicit genre as it often is?

Theres actually nothing remotely' memphis 'on this album. Nothing. Id rather he spoke about what is going on in his head ( isnt that what most artists do) thatnthe fake (but fun) gangster alter ego on MTI. You act like youve got some monopoly on mental issues Sach fucking grow up. Is there a certain level on Mental shit youve got to have before you can express it with any art? Where you not on here trying to sell fucking paintings or a book or some shit years ago? Ive never heard LUM say 'buy this' i have you ,though. Whats the difference?

since you gon attack my remonstrations of past'
Nah mate wasnt attacking it at all was asking whats the difference.
'little more than pecuniary gain and/or fame in mind'
totally unfounded opinion. You have no idea how real or how harsh his or anyones mental problems have been/are. Youre looking for clues that align with yours as if everyones is the fucking same. Dude wrote his shit on a broken laptop and just put it online and it blew up. I dont think "fame' has ever been a particular goal and if it was he could write far more accesible shit about his so called faux mental issues. and talk to mainstream press rather than do very very sparse interviews.
I dont have some barometer for metal problems ANYONE is free to create art to help them release the feeling of depression/lonleyness/Suicidal thoughts or whatever the fuck and to belittle someone for doing so when youve supposedly struggled yourself with them just seems counter productive and massively hypocritical to me. 'AHHHH YOU CANT BE FUCKED UP COS YOU DIDNT DO A/B/C' Fucking none sense.
Ive never actually heard LUM talk about his problems on Interviews (the VERY few he does) He always has just spoke about music. Hes not on fcking TMZ hes just some underground artist. Your narrative of him taking all these dollars, lying about his head being fucked is weird, Youve got some weird hard on for him because he talks about depression. Really fucking weird.
'his career has been one founded on slapping together styles done better prior and adding a hyper-treborian sense of self-deprecation'
Again just not really true. MTI barely touched on the latter. But had plenty of the former but done in a way MANY people loved it as well as his lyricism, witt, character and flow as well as a good throwback album to those times.
Only really a couple of tracks off the tapes, This and Bedwetter REALLY touched on any problems with himself, really. Boiling it down to YOUR opinion of 2nd rate Three6 and Self deprecation is so ridiculously over simplified regarding his appeal to people.
'the difference is i do my shit for other people
lum does it for himself,'
hahah SO fucking what? Sach- man of the people, Its like youre in some competition over who has the most valid mental issues. No one fucking cares mate. Give me music written for the musicians writing it over 'shit for other people' any day.

I think the premise of criticising lum for expressing his self loathing and so on is flawed because let’s be honest the majority of artists just express highly personal world views, thoughts, trials and tribulations etc to the public so if lum should think that than surely sosa would be thinking man these fans are dumb af lapping up every half baked rant barely fit to rhyme about my general lifestyle, or drug use or street violence or women or whatever the lyrical content is for most hip hop artists (or beyond) - the key to lum acclaim is because he has interesting delivery, rhyme schemes, flow, and - whether or not it’s considered original - production and overall aesthetic. Otherwise yeah he’d just be a whinging cunt who nobody could stand.
Perhaps not as unique and groundbreaking as some claim but unarguably more interesting than the majority

| |
And yeah by all account lum doesn’t give a flying fuck about the $ unlike 99% or rappers he’s turned down heaps of collabs, barely plays live shows, rarely agrees to to interviews, goes on hiatus when he’s not feeling creative instead of just pumping out half assed shit, he’s gotta be one of the least avaricious and attention seeking guys in the game. His underground fame and acclaim is just a byproduct not an aim

I just realized I fucked up the name of his previous album. I was stoned as hell. For some reason I combined that one song by Elton John with Mista Thug Isolation.

Hard if not impossible to conclude whether an artists elusive nature is deliberate for the sake of creating mystique as a marketing tool or whether that’s their natural personally especially if they’ve been consistently that way since the beginning
