idk I feel like it's too joyful at the beginning, b/c after The Same Asylum as Before the rest remains serious and pretty dark.

Well, it's Steven Wilson we're talking about, your argument has no value.

Every single I jammed off the new album I enjoyed, particularly the Same Asylum as Before.

Agreed Pleb. Asylum is my favorite of the four singles.

Yes my argument does have value Myth because the new album has all kinds of moods, not just seriousness and depression.

what annoys me about asylum is its bland drumming

The drumming is very straightforward like that throughout the whole album, don't expect much of anything resembling Marco Minneman's style.

Was surprised by Wilson's vocal delivery but I liked it surprisingly, song is catchy af.

Same Asylum is the only song I don't particularly enjoy off the new album, tbh. The drumming disappointed me, was expecting much more than I heard in the end. Even pop albums deserve a more intricate drumming.

And I suppose the moods would be there even with a new track order, not specifically mine (as I said, it was a hasty order), but I'd rather lose some of the variety for more consistency.

Automaton registers, Automaton picks up on technicalities, Automaton has obviously never listened to Live At Leeds, Automaton likes Rush.

I'm still failing to understand how Wilson's vocals are catching people off guard

I've always liked 'em. 'Sing to me raven I've missed her so much' emotional stuff.

Same Asylum is one of my favorites. The falsetto doesn't bother too much and that instrumental guitar bit really hits the spot for me.

In terms of track listing, the only part that kinda throws me off are the transitions between Refuge - Permanating - Blank Tapes. The mood goes from serious to peak of happiness to melancholy, which is just a bit of an odd flow.

Yeah it'd bother me more if I didn't love the songs so much

Agreed, definitely his best solo album and only 4 or 5 PT albums that are overall better.
