Indeed - I've only heard this 4 or 5 times now, but it keeps getting better. Need to hear it enough to quote those wonderful lyrics, lol

i dunno man, i dig it and all (the rapping is exceptional) but i find a lot of the actual music in the beats to be pretty unmemorable. feels like El-p kinda went on autopilot when making them.

"feels like El-p kinda went on autopilot when making them."

I could not disagree more. The only beats that leaves anything to be desired is "Get It." Generally, they're powerful, progressive, and full of specific intent if you ask me. They tone they set matches each song's lyrics so well too, I'm thinking Twin Hype, 36" Chain, Sea Legs, and Christmas Fucking Miracle specifically here.

"Need to hear it enough to quote those wonderful lyrics, lol"

I can literally rap all of Christmas Fucking Miracle without the song playing, and I'm at about 70% with the rest of the album. I've never been this obsessed with rap, lyrically.

I actually really like the beats, it seems a lot more progressive than on most other hip-hop albums. But I'm not that familiar with EL-P's other records, except for some songs, so I can't really compare to his earlier work

Aids: Sweet man. It's a shame so few people know this album (well, in Denmark that is). None of my friends know this shit and are all like "Well, Watch the Throne is the bomb"

like this is El-P's best collection of beats. maybe it's just a difference in tastes, "old school vs new school" kind of thing, but I love the forward-thinking stuff here. Killer Mike is a smart motherfucker for latching on to this guy. He fucking slays those beats and they are absolutely ripe for the slaying.

@NightProwler:

it's the same in Canada more or less. I have two friends who are coming to the show with me, but one is a super awesome hip-hop aficionado and the other lived in Brooklyn for a year. Both ladiez 8) gonna roll some blunts and hip-hop-hard.

ps did you go to Roskilde Festival this year?

I agree with that. It's like Killer Mike is the big monster who spits out fast and amazing lyrics, while EL-P is the backbone keeping up the bumps and beats, also contributing with some exceptional rapping

I actually prefer El-P's lyrics and looooooove his flow. They're both perfect though.

And no, I live in Vancouver (Western Canada) but was backpacking last year and went to 2012 (m83/Refused/Bon Iver/Mew all in a row, I will never forget that magical day). We talked about it a little bit a while back. I'm definitely planning to go back one year, but I won't be able to travel again for a couple of years probably. I did not know that was their world premier, that's incredible! I would have figured they'd have done a US show already but I guess not. I am more excited for their show here in 8 days than I have ever been for a show, for a number of reasons.

Yeah, I remember. Still jealous about Refused and M83, but Springsteen is my main man both Mew and (what I saw of) Bon Iver was great, though!

I get that, it's a long trip to make. I've been thinking about going to Canada myself (partly also after seeing the Weakerthans put up three dates for concerts, lol). I once had this image of myself several years from now, living in a cabin in Canada and listening to Bon Iver, lol.

Killer Mike and EL-P were really great, especially the former. I was really close to the stage, and their energy was just amazing. First Killer Mike had a 1 hour set, then EL-P. During both of their shows, the other person got on stage, and they presented the world premier of Run the Jewels. Really cool!
