In hindsight, Coldplay dominated the early and mid-2000s. On mornings where I'd watch VH1's top 10 or MTVs countdown, Coldplay was always there. I must have seen the music videos for Speed of Sound, Clocks, and Fix You like a bajillion times. Then Viva releases and they're crowned the best Brit band since Radiohead. They had a grapplehold over the airwaves for nearly a decade.

Coldplay's hype will always be lost on me
|

The first two albums deserve the hype imo and they got some other good songs afterwards, but the overall downfall is probably one of the worst of all time in British rock

overexposure has killed many a band for me
I’m not sure there was too much life in the first place here, but still

I am on board with you, demon.
00s radio rock was a fucking nightmare in our neck of the woods.
I was actually kinda glad it got jettisoned out in favour of more club dance tunes in early 10s.

I just always thought this band was painfully average. Not incredibly offensive but never understood their beloved status

they became painfully offensive on viva la vida, one of the worst albums of the 00s
|

I only know the singles and Joe Satriani getting pissed

^That's the only part worth remembering

“I just always thought this band was painfully average. Not incredibly offensive but never understood their beloved status”
Same. The being played everywhere coupled with becoming incapable of even producing competent music, made everything infinitely worse.
They ended up encapsulating the “casual” music fan. The dad who took his family for £100+ a head. Enjoyed it obviously because he has shit all to compare it to. Now that same dad goes to see Taylor Swift, lol

demon u cant knock the opener u just cant

There's plenty of good stuff to appreciate from Coldplay's discography but I can see how others would see it as good music for people who don't dig deeper beyond whatever is playing on Rock 101 and shit.
