also sobhi, i find that interesting. mainstream outlets went pretty nuts for futuresex/lovesounds back
in the day i thought--including, of course, pitchfork--and it's not like JT wasn't huge back then
"are they drained of their potency or does it stretch the potency from beginning to end? hmm"
to me the former, to you the latter, its all good tho. maybe in some time i will come to agree with
you

i agree on art being important / defining, but not being subjectively good for some people. but i think that quote was more of a contradiction, and he didn't flesh out his opinion effectively.
ie, The Seer toxin brought up. i couldn't give a shit about it, but i recognize its importance. i personally would never write about a record like that, especially since i'm just not a big fan of that genre of music in general.

idk its not like these songs go nowhere, fizzle out and die and are run down way too long these tunes more than make up from their lengths due to the awesome switches i mean let the groove get in isn't fucking nearly half as good as it is without that outro

oh man, i was in college when fs/ls came out, and it was huuuge dude. probably the biggest pop album of the year, easily. it was when JT first shed the boy band image in favor of a badass disco-ball smashing one. and that record did not do as well critically as 20/20 has

hmm i guess youre right, for some reason i remember critics fawning over fs/ls but i guess that was more just pitchfork putting "my love" as their #1 song of th year

" and that record did not do as well critically as 20/20 has"
Actually, looking up at some reviews, it seems fs/ls actually did BETTER than 20/20 has been doing.
Pretty strange, I've heard some of the stuff on there(besides sexy back), and it just pales in comparison to this in every way imo.

Fuck me.....all this controversy over a god damn review.
You're all acting like it's fact or something. 1 guy doesn't like and has stupid reasons for not liking it. So what? It's his opinion, move the fuck on.

idk man im usually pretty good at this
before having heard the album i totally would be with you on the >9 but i bet they throw it a positive-but-not-too-positive review (maybe even in the 6s, ruh roh) and call "suit and tie" one of the best tracks
weird, even after having heard the album i wouldve thought this would get unanimously positive reviews, was surprised to see the critical mean shifting toward my opinion rather than unreserved praise

drummerboy, i think you missed the point of the discussion. it's basically surprise at how low the overall critical average is.

Mainstream media sucks balls. We get it.
As long as you love the album you shouldn't concern yourself with people who don't know fuck all about music.

it's just frustrating how so many critics will beat off to a million records that sound just like the fleet foxes, but cant do it for a mainstream pop/r&B record. which is my point that they are so disconnected from music in general it seems
