i just dont GET the grammys. this band wins every year and its like yeah alright their okay but let's

let someone else win for a change (in book there was at least 10+ other artists nominated that

deserved grammys more). after a while hearing this band buzzing in your ear every other minute inside

every retail store EVER it just makes you want to pull your hair out !!!

yeah i think autechre should have changed their name to have a nice life so i'd never have to listen to their cruddy music again and then i'd say "have a nice life"

thats why these guys are probably my favorite artists. theres so much that goes not only in the music itself but the context and connotation to each of the sounds they place in their recordings so that each album takes months to really dissect.

the brilliance is that it still has a face value, but theres just so much sonically to work with that you really have to put effort into listening to be rewarded. and i love it.

I find they work best as literally ambient (to not say "background") music for the first couple of listens before really taking tackling the albums head on, it makes it a lot easier for their music to sink in to me, for some reason

Still haven't listened to this tho, I'm only just starting with their discog

well the function of ambient music as i see it is not to be "background sound" but to literally fill the void inbetween the silence and the noise of you're environment, seamlessly integrating the two so that you become more aware of both your conscious and subconscious surroundings

ive also made the case before that autechre are the ultimate ambient artists, and perhaps one of the only true spiritual successors to what people like brian eno were doing almost 40 years ago

i'm starting to feel like they're just the ultimate artists period. i've never heard such genius spread across such a big discog; can't think of another group that could release an album this good after 20 years of making music

what i find most astounding about this isnt simply that their work is consistently good, but the fact that ever since around 1994 theyve been pushing the boundaries of music in their own canonical style that somehow manages to discover new sonic territory while still retaining a sound that is quintessentially their own.

no one sounds like autechre, not even autechre. i mean quaristice sounds like autechre, but it also doesnt really sound like autechre at all. its hard to describe it but as ive become more familiar with their discography this is exactly the kind of reaction i get when going from album to album.
