I can't seem to to get into this one. Their s/t was absolutely amazing, but this feels watered down.

I'm the opposite, I can't get into the s/t because it feels too silly at times. This is cheesier, but it goes on you a lot more

I like the cheesiness of their first effort. The lyrics are fantasy oriented and the riffs are meant to have that factor to them. I still feel like that release had more emotion behind it (Starchild especially)

The production and mixing on this pisses me off a tad, but I like more symphonic aspects to it. It just works better for me

What's wrong with the production?

" because it feels too silly at times"
Are you seriously insinuating that this LP DOESN'T sound silly in comparison? With all that "grand" orchestra shenanigans going on?

Lol no, I said up there that this is cheesier, but it just works in my mind. I didn't like it at first for that reason, but I got used to it very quickly

Did you not hear Jari complaining about his equipment, saying that it's not catered to his preferences

Most of us won't buy it on vinyl anyway so having super amazing production is pretty much moot, innit?

The only thing I don't like about the production is the clean vocals. Otherwise it's really good.

I don't like how some parts are loud and then nothing in the instrumentation changes, but the volume all of a sudden shifts. I don't get it but it's grown to ignore it now.

the production on this album is phenomenal for what it is

that's what's called dynamics, i like how it isn't yet another brickwalled one-volume-throughout-the-whole-thing metal album

no, no not dynamics. It's hard to pinpoint, but I'm essentially faulting the mix here
