New album is very mid on first listen. A few cool moments here and there but fairly bland outside of that (just like their last 3 albums).
I don't think this band is ever going to come close to topping Conclusion of an Age and Edge of the Earth.

Just listened to it. It's... OK I guess?
I'm trying to figure out why I can't seem to get into any of their newer stuff and I think it's a bunch of things:
1) The riffs just kind of feel phoned in for some reason.
2) The guitars in general seem to have taken a back seat to the vocals, at least relative to their earlier albums
3) The songs feel slower and almost butt rock-ish at times. The drumming in particular just does very little for me
4) Those atmospheric leads that were sort of their signature sound in the earlier albums feel a lot less prevalent
5) I'm not 100% sure on this one but I think the new tuning they use doesn't help either. I think E standard actually did work better for them
