@kubrick 'For some reason Codex doesn't do much for me... like the atmosphere but it just doesn't have

any wow factor idk' -- i actually agree here (though that opinion is liable to change), but you

couldn't be more wrong about 'give up the ghost.' the eerie daybreak, the peaceful acoustic guitar,

the brilliant repetitive chorus. dang son...

Yeah it's a pretty beautiful track and I definitely enjoy the aesthetic. Somehow I still think it tumbles around in itself for a little too long without really changing or progressing. As with all Radiohead albums I can't say for sure that my opinion won't change on that but for whatever reason the song isn't as absorbing as say Lotus Flower or Morning Mr Magpie at the moment. I think maybe it has something to do with the placement of the track after Codex? I feel like both of those songs follow a similar progression (or lack thereof). They both sit on the same motif for essentially the whole song without doing much else and the fact that they are right next to each other on the album kind of brings that to the forefront. So even though they both sound very nice, their placement side-by-side on the album kinda creates a bit of a stagnation due to their similar approach. Perhaps if they were split further apart it wouldn't be as much of a problem? Not sure, all I know is that I definitely sense a bit of momentum loss during that two song stretch.

i see magpie --> little by little parallel codex --> give up the ghost. codex / give up the ghost is a breath of air so of course the pace is slower, but give up the ghost is so twisting -- listen to it on it's own a couple times if you need to. thom's voice is Brilliant in that song.

also, dude, you're long winded shorten your posts up or pretty soon everyone's gonna go tldr on you.

(what you should have said:

im not 100% on anything yet cause its early but im still stuck on magpie and lotus flower. give up the ghost is cool but kindof static. maybe this has to do with its placement behind codex, which is even more low key. though both are good tracks, they kinda blend onto each other.

seriously, that would have covered all your points and been way easier to read

Haha, thanks for your concern but to be quite honest I don't really care. Yeah, you're right, I could've said what you said and all the points I made would've been there in a condensed, skeletal form. That doesn't make it the exact same thing. My natural tendency is to be descriptive which has distinct advantages and disadvantages. Advantage: it gives a much more accurate and thoughtful response than simply saying something like "cool but static." Disadvantage: less people will read it. The thing is, I don't really care if less people read it. People who want to have a more detailed discussion about an album that goes beyond "i love this song" and "this album is amazing" can read it and those who don't can ignore it.

Plus, honestly, if a comment of this length or the length above is tl;dr then people must have attention span issues. The difference between your condensed version of my comment and my actual comment is probably about 45 seconds of reading.. and both are under a minute. Sound ludicrous? Time it. It looks a lot longer but in reality they both take under a minute to read.

@kubrick 'it gives a *little* more accurate and thoughtful response' -- i'll read your comments, it's

not an attention span issue -- i just sigh before doing so. modifying a couple of your natural

inclinations to accommodate others is a very important skill. find a balance between the one you

wrote and the one i wrote so you say everything you want but in less space and i'd appreciate it.

@potato --> i totally just lol'd. maybe it's just the name but magpie does bring back memories of

'for the benefit of mr kite'. am i just way too obsessed with the beatles or is it something of a

more mellow, darker, less circusy version of the sgt peppers classic? i think i demand that my music

be more twisting than magpie so it's not really my cup of tea, but it is kinda fun

somehow that droning hammer hitting anvil sound in the background of magpie has got me hooked.

and is it just me or is hail to the thief heavily underrated around here.

Even the less brilliant songs like We Suck Young Blood have genius guitar and piano transitions. They don't necessarily jump out at you. They are in the back. So listen hard, study long, because they're there. No pun. Album flows beautifully for me.

i actually like king of limbs better than hail to the thief just cause that album is pretty undirected.

still, 'sit down stand up' + 'backdrifts' + almost all the tracks on there are pretty sick. even 'punchup at a wedding' hooks me even though it's not all that complex

I like Myxomatosis live better than the record take. Watch the In Rainbows Live In The Basement DVD, it's amazing

Yesssss it's so good. Awesome setlist of IR/HTTT/Kid A mainly. Everyone is spot-on

I might bump this but I think 4 is a solid fair rating for now. Once Pt. 2 inevitably surfaces it'll be amazing I'm sure

I appreciate the criticism because you seem genuine and unassuming. I'll be more conscious of when I'm more or less repeating myself unnecessarily in my posts and try to cut back on that. I generally do say more in my posts though which will make them longer than average either way. But I get where you're coming from and I'll take it into consideration. Thanks for not being a douche! =)

Btw has anyone seen the speculation that tomorrow may be the day for a big announcement from Radiohead? Johnny Greenwood is giving an interview in the morning and there have been some cryptic things that Radiohead have posted that are hinting towards a reveal. Don't wanna get my hopes up but it seems like something could happen.
