Not in the slightest. It's just got more post rock time wasting.

123 it's like they ran out of ideas so they just went "ok let's make one half of the album with lots of bm and tremolo riffs that sound like the one's we've written before and the second half just write lots of boring post-rock wankery people will love"

You're just pissed off that it's different, it seems. The fact that metal enthusiasts aren't lauding this just proves that they're getting better. I also wasn't anticipating the shit out of this like everyone else though.

You realize you're sporting a 4, right?

It's not all that different, though! That's the problem, they include a small handful of new ideas (mostly in Black Lake Nidstang) and just re-hash most of the rest.

I honestly don't understand how people can adore Ashes Against The Grain and dismiss this one so easily. If you ask me, people were expecting too much, but I'm more than happy with the outcome. To each their own though.

Ya, it's not really different at all, the Agalloch parts sound like typical Agalloch sections, sad thing is that's only about half of the album.

You set the bar too high. Perhaps you should write songs for them instead.

It shows maturity.
How, specifically, does it show maturity?

No, they just made a lot of really bad decisions on this. The whole 50's equipment thing was a great gimmick, but the riffs hold basically no power when compared to songs like "not unlike the waves", the drums are way too loud and borderline annoying, and the post rock sections make the whole album seem ridiculously disjointed.

Nothing about this album is post-rock, Gmork... I don't know why you keep saying that.
How, specifically, does it show maturity?
Regardless of what I say I'm sure you'll both contest it one way or the other, but I think it's a very clear progression for the band, and like I said, the fact that the enthusiasts have been disappointed just shows that they're branching out and evolving. It's an album of meditation, a mammoth accomplishment... I don't understand why people aren't hearing this.

I find it hard to believe that, because "enthusiasts" don't like the album, it means that the band is "evolving" for the better.

Those same enthusiasts are expecting to continue along a set path, and when they deviate from it those same avid fans are typically going to be disappointed with what they've produced... I think the argument is valid enough.

I'm guessing it's a good thing that I haven't listened to Watain yet.
It's not bad but it's nothing to write home about.
