I listened to this today because seeing these guys live a couple days ago got me re-hyped on them. I was always a Vheissu-and-later Thrice fan but I thought I'd give this another shot because hey you never know. I don't know if it's a "you had to have been there" kind of thing but I'll just never understand the appeal of these pop-punk style vocals or whatever you'd call it over these riffs. Musically it reminds me a lot of metalcore I used to listen to when this came out but the vocals make this very hard to sit through, for me.

I find that a lot better than what they preceded to do on Vheissu onward so I can't agree with the idea that you had to be there to appreciate it.

I'm just getting at the idea that there was a huge scene featuring these types of vocals. I could never get into it, even though musically this is right up my alley

This is more than deserving of a 5 bump. One of the most exciting post-hardcore albums ever.

Dustin Kensrue isnt the most standout vocalist but I feel like he fits really well. Hes got good emotion with some slight edge. I wouldnt say that this voice is super common with most other Post-Hardcore bands of this era but out of them all Dustins voice is prob the most "radio-friendly" for lack of better terms. I wouldnt say his voice is very Pop Punk at all, whether were talking about the stupid radio stuff or the "trve kvlt" Pop Punk.
If you want a band that has a similar shreddy metallic influenced Punk sound but with a more gruff sounding vocalist then Propagandhi and Death By Stereo would be worth trying out.

Fuck yeah it is. Dont listen to this one as frquently as I did growing up but every time I put it on im still reminded of how fuckin great it is.

Deadbolt is soooooo good. Don't know why I didn't vibe as hard with it before since I've been listening to this album for damn near 20 years now. But sometimes it works like that, you think a song is alright or skip past it unfairly and years later really listen to it and get blown away.
COME ON AND GIVE ME MY POISON

wtf skips deadbolt lol? glad you came around dude

I mean I've always really liked this album but these last few listens really made me fall hard for it, I've probably listened to this thing beginning to end a good dozen times the last week. Creeping towards a 5 for me.

The snare on this used to irritate the hell outta me but I've grown to love how raw it is

I didn't notice the snare until someone pointed it out to me. It took a bit to kinda let it fade back in the background

I love the trifecta that is this, Artist, and Vheissu

I don't. This is the only album I like from them. Artist is a weaker version of this, and their reformed sound from Vheissu and onward doesn't appeal to me.

I always thought the 3 of them were pretty uniquely different and appreciated them for that
I really enjoyed the progression they had until after Beggars. That's when they started to kinda lose me with Palms. Curious to see if they are gonna keep at it and what they will try next, still, tho

This is probably my most listened to Thrice record, with Vheissu coming in a close second. All of their other records just don't draw me back.

Artist is the more accessible out of the 3 and I can see ppl not finding it as interesting, but it always hit all the right spots for me, even after having and listening to it since when it first was released

but after all, it's all for their own good

I've only heard this one. Not a big fan of the sung vocals.

His singing gets much better thru their discog
Vheissu would probs be his best vocal display with harsh and clean vox, whereas after that they pretty much drop the screaming in their music, but his singing voice really excels when they switch to a more alt/rock sound from Beggars onward
